Meerkat Facts
Meerkats are mammals; they have hair (not fur),
breathe through their lungs, and give birth to live
babies (they do not lay eggs).
A group of meerkats is called a mob, gang, or clan.
The word meerkat means "lake cat," but they are not
cats, they are a mongoose.

What do Meerkats Look Like?
Meerkats only weigh about 1.6 pounds, and stand
about 10 inches tall.
Meerkats will put their ears against the ground to
listen for food. They can also close their ears, so
when they are digging with their claws, dirt won't
get inside.
